UNM Web Standards Introduction

The UNM Web Standards have been created to help provide a consistent set of standards that UNM website can follow.  The standards include visual elements, accessibility, and other item to ensure that UNM website are accessible by the widest possible audience and allow for a consistent user experience.

Conventions used in the UNM Web Standards

Font faces used in the Standard

Fixed width - Used to indicate HTML tags and HTML attributes.

Bold - In lists of terms and definitions, used to indicate the defined term; also emphasize a term when it is defined in text.

Abbreviations

IE - Internet Explorer; Microsoft’s web browser. Specific versions may be indicated by a number following; for example: IE6.

QAT - Quality Assurance Testing

WCMS - Web Content Management System. Also refers to UNM’s enterprise WCMS, Cascade Server.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization

XHTML - eXtensible HyperText Markup Language is a form of HTML, the language in which web pages are written.  XHTML follows XML conventions for well formed code.

XML - eXtensible Markup Language is a markup languages that defines a format this is both human readable and machine readable.
